Many uninformed individuals believe that racial tensions and violence are worse in the 21st century than ever. On the contrary, many surfacing circumstances are reaching more due to the speed and range of technology, and with this, more voices of the oppressed are reaching the ears of the privileged. One common error repeated far too often by adults, and especially Montessori educators, is cultural appropriation. Well-intentioned adults often neglect to see (or ignore) the harmful stereotypes they perpetuate. Explore the history of our past–one that has often paved the way to appropriation, while countering it with present-day appreciation scenarios. Develop concrete knowledge between the two and courage to pursue daily appreciation of ALL cultures.
